3 policemen killed, 3 wounded in Baton Rouge shooting

Montrell Jackson, Matthew Gerald and Brad Garafola have been named by several sources as the two BRPD officers and the EBRSO deputy killed by suspected shooter Gavin E. Long.

Police believe that Long, an African-American, may have been in a rental auto that had been stolen five or six days ago in a Midwestern state, according to the sources, who are not authorized to speak publicly. Law enforcement sources told ABC News that federal authorities are now looking into what ties – if any – Long may have with the Moorish Science Temple of America. CNN found that an email address linked to Long showed he was a member of a support group in an organization called Freedom from Covert Harassment and Surveillance, whose mission is to help those “Marginalized and abused by…” Investigators have the phone and are scrubbing it for new leads, including of course any potential associates.

The Black Lives Matter civil rights movement has called for police to end racial profiling, bringing the issue to national attention ahead of the November 8 U.S. presidential election. Authorities believes two others may be at large.

Then, on Sunday, she heard the news from her mother of the police shooting. The slain shooter’s body was next door, outside a fitness center.
