Christopher Nolan Unveils Chilling Dunkirk Teaser

The teaser for Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk has grim war imagery, but no Harry Styles

There isn’t much in the way of plot revealed, but the Dunkirk trailer certainly sets up the setting well.

On Thursday, Warner Bros. released the first teaser for Dunkirk.

The movie is set between May 27 and June 4,1940, more than a year before the Pearl Harbor attack prompted the United States’ official entrance into World War II. Spielberg, Kubrick, Francis Ford Coppola all made a switch into war films and we all know how important those films were in cementing their film making careers. Filming on Dunkirk started May 23rd and it’s still going on as we speak, which is probably why there’s so little shown in this teaser.

It’ll also be the big screen debut of one Harry Styles, the One Directioner (er, former One Directioner?) who sheared off his winsomely bedraggled locks to play a British soldier.

After delivering epic masterpieces like the Dark Knight trilogy and Interstellar, Christopher Nolan is back, this time deciding to pick the Second World War as his topic of choice.

Dunkirk charts the Allies evacuation from France in May 1940 after Hitler’s army gained the upper-hand.

But whatever you think of Nolan, no one else gets to make original movies on this scale anymore, and that will make this one to look out for.

See the preview below for the film also starring Tom Hardy, Kenneth Branagh, Harry Styles, Cillian Murphy, Fionn Whitehead, Aneurin Barnard, James D’Arcy, Jack Lowden, Barry Keoghan, and Tom Glynn-Carne. As usual, Nolan is again collaborating with Hans Zimmer for the background score of the film.

Dunkirk opens in theaters July 21, 2017.
