Louisville surges to No. 3 in the AP Top 25

Louisville's big splash onto the national scene drenches Florida State

Lamar Jackson ran for four touchdowns and threw for another as No. 10 Louisville poured it on for a 63-20 victory over No. 2 Florida State on Saturday, the most points ever allowed by the Seminoles. Now the internet is claiming that he deserves the Heisman Trophy not later, but right now.

Louisville travels to Houston on November 17 for a game that already has college football fans getting excited.

Florida State: The Seminoles seemed out of it on both sides of the ball but especially defensively, possibly due to the absence of injured defensive back Derwin James.

Was it Jaire Alexander’s 69-yard punt return for a touchdown on the fourth play of the second half, the score that pretty much guaranteed that Florida State wouldn’t come back here the way it did in Orlando from 22 points down against Ole Miss?

The Clemson defense wasn’t great against the two reputable teams it played this season. While it may be too soon to speak of torches passed – Louisville must play at No. 5 Clemson in two weeks – we certainly can speak of Seminoles passed.

The talent and cohesiveness is there, and the schedule is strong enough to make an impact with the College Football Playoff selection committee.

No. 1 Alabama 48, No. 19 Mississippi 43: In Oxford, Mississippi, Alabama scored two defensive touchdowns and another on special teams to overcome a three-touchdown deficit. The SEC on CBS Game of the Week turned amazement into gripping drama, as Alabama and Ole Miss exchanged blows over four hours in a back-and-forth Tide victory that highlighted their depth and defensive prowess.

The game was such a mismatch that the Tigers (3-0) scored two touchdowns in the first quarter with no time running off the clock. Three hours before kickoff, game traffic backed up from the stadium to the Watterson Expressway. Louisville’s convincing blowout of Florida State vaults Lamar Jackson and the Cardinals into the top spot.Lamar Jackson isn’t concerned with the hype.

The game recap reported by ESPN notes that Jackson tallied 362 yards of offense, throwing for one touchdown, and adding four of them with his own legs. Peppers finished the comeback win with nine tackles, a sack, a hurry, 3.5 tackles for loss, 208 all-purpose yards and a game-sealing touchdown. “We know everything has to go through Florida State and Clemson [in the ACC]”.

Tennessee scored 38 seconds into the game on the first touchdown pass from Dobbs to Malone. 12. Boston CollegeCrushed 49-0 by Virginia Tech to drop to 0-2 in ACC play. The Boat-Rowing Broncos dominated IL and also have a victory against Northwestern.

Louisville: This was the win the program always sought, and now it’s a matter of whether the Cardinals crack the top five and position themselves to contend for a playoff spot they’ve dreamed of. No offense to Auburn or Troy, but they don’t have a weapon even close to Jackson – nobody does. The Amway Coaches” poll also has “Bama No. 1, followed by Ohio State, Clemson, Louisville and MI. 3 Ohio State, a loss that dropped them to No. 25 on Sunday.

Iowa fell out of my poll from No. 14 after losing at home to North Dakota State, and Oklahoma is out of the poll from No. 21.

Washington (9). Another easy win, this time over an FCS team.

The Bison beat the Hawkeyes at their own game, rushing for 239 yards and holding the Hawkeyes to 231 total yards. The Crimson Tide received 59 of the 63 first-place votes cast this week. Will get No. 1 votes.

“Tomorrow we’ll come back and watch the video”, he said.

A year after rushing for 19 yards against Clemson, the Cardinals had an unfathomable 314 against FSU. Their win against Oklahoma was knocked down a few notches as well with the Buckeye trouncing, but it is still a quality win no matter how you look at it.

Mark Richt and his staff have done a wonderful job of instilling a newfound focus within this team, and it will be interesting to see how the ‘Canes fare against the ACC heavyweights.
