Other View: Trump bets on Russian spying

Donal Trump is Hillary Clinton's Republican rival in the race for the White House

For all that, some of Trump’s goals are consistent with long-held USA views, many experts say.

Obama traditionally avoids commenting on active FBI investigations, but he told NBC News on Tuesday that outside experts have blamed Russian Federation for the leak and appeared to embrace the notion that President Vladimir Putin might have been responsible because of what he described as Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump’s affinity for Putin.

“I think laying out the facts raises issues about Russian interference in our elections, in our democracy”, Clinton said.

Epshteyn said the “relationship” Trump was describing didn’t extend beyond Putin following what Trump was doing in Moscow.

TRUMP: I never met Putin. “He’s not gonna go into Ukraine, all right?”

The timing of the WikiLeaks action, coming just as the Democrats’ gathered to nominate Clinton, supports the suspicion that the leak was meant to benefit Trump. “You can put it down”.

Peskov said the Kremlin was unmoved by that comment, and it would not change what he says has been its neutral stance on US presidential candidates.

Clinton campaign senior policy adviser Jake Sullivan said Wednesday that Trump’s comments were a “national security issue”.

“What is he talking about?”

Once again, Trump’s position is diametrically opposed to that of his own party’s leaders.

That’s hard to reconcile, considering Mr. Trump stated it twice, and then tweeted it.

Trump said in a free-wheeling Wednesday press conference that he hoped the Russian government had accessed emails from Clinton’s server and that he would “like to have them released”.

Clinton has said she deleted the emails because they were private, and not related to government affairs, even as she turned over to government investigators another 30,000 emails connected to her State Department business. “I think you will be mightily rewarded by our press”. “Despite the promise of sanctions easing the bigger concern is the unpredictability of a Trump presidency when it comes to geo-politics; you simply don’t know how he would react in any given situation”.

Obama said he was basing his assessment on Trump’s own comments and the fact that Trump has “gotten pretty favorable coverage back in Russian Federation”. The emails released so far show that supposedly neutral Democratic officials favored Clinton over Vermont Sen. And on Fox News, Trump cleared up his words.

Trump repeatedly said, “I have nothing to do with Russian Federation”, although he has praised Putin in the past.

US computer experts have said they believe Russian state actors are behind the hack, and some Democratic officials claim the timing of the leak suggests Russian President Vladimir Putin is trying to skew the USA election process in Trump’s favor. And past USA administrations of both parties have quietly complained that other North Atlantic Treaty Organisation members should pay their share to the alliance. Republican vice-presidential candidate Mike Pence understands that: On Wednesday, he said that if Russian Federation is “interfering in our elections, I can assure you both parties and the United States government will ensure there are serious consequences”.

If the Russian government is behind the theft and release of embarrassing emails from the Democratic Party, as USA officials have suggested, it may reflect less a love of Donald Trump or enmity for Hillary Clinton than a desire to discredit the US political system. The host noted that Trump’s people were involved, which generated a response from Trump saying he’ll have “to take a look at it”.
